Population was 39,201 at the 2020 census across 16.12 square miles. Residential stock spans that whole run of history, so a single neighborhood can hold a Victorian frontage with elaborate trim, a 1920s foursquare with a simple hipped roof and a postwar ranch with a long low eave line.

Those three roof types are not interchangeable. A long low eave on a ranch reads as one clean horizontal and looks best stated once, with nothing competing. A hipped roof presents four converging planes and needs the ridge treated as the primary line. An elaborate Victorian frontage offers so many edges that restraint is the only way to keep the shape legible. Warren sits at about 886 feet, low ground by local standards, which means it also gets more of the rain version of a borderline December storm than the higher towns to the south do.
