About Nikola
What kind of work does Nikola Landscape Lighting take on?
Only outdoor lighting. The work is landscape lighting, permanent roofline lighting, Christmas lighting and service on lighting systems already in the ground.
Who runs the company?
Luke McConnell owns Nikola and is the person you talk to from the first call. The business is owner-operated, and Luke works with a crew of three technicians.
Where is Nikola based, and how far do you travel?
Our home base is Canfield in Mahoning County, Ohio. We work up to about 150 miles out, which reaches Pittsburgh's suburbs in Pennsylvania and Morgantown in West Virginia. The service areas page lists every town with its own page.
Can I stop by to see you?
We do not run a walk-in showroom. Visits are by appointment only, so call (234) 759-3333 first and we will set a time.
Quotes and planning
How do I get a quote?
Fill in the request form on any page or call (234) 759-3333. Luke calls you back, then either comes out to see the property or prices the job over the phone if it is simple enough.
Do I pay for the first visit?
No. The consultation at your home is free, and you get the figure for the whole job before you agree to anything.
Will I see the design before you install it?
Yes. After the visit we draw up a lighting plan for your property and present it with good, better and best options, so you can choose how far to take it. Christmas displays are quoted with digital mockups of your house.
Landscape lighting
What type of system do you put in?
Low-voltage LED landscape lighting, laid out for your house, trees and outdoor living areas.
How long does an installation take?
It depends on the size of the property. A small job can be done in a day, and a large one can run up to a month. At the end we walk the property with you after dark to check every light.
Is there a warranty on landscape lighting?
Yes. Landscape lighting installs carry a 24-month workmanship warranty.
Can you fix a system another company installed?
Yes. We service systems we put in and systems other companies built. A maintenance visit runs through eight steps, from a system evaluation and lamp replacement to timer checks, trimming plants back from fixtures, and repairing or replacing fixtures. See service and maintenance for the full list.
Permanent and Christmas lighting
What is permanent holiday lighting?
It is a Gemstone Lights track installed along your roofline that stays up all year. You run it from a phone app, with millions of colours and dozens of animations, so the same lights cover Christmas, the Fourth of July, Halloween, game days and plain warm white for the rest of the year.
What does seasonal Christmas lighting usually cost?
Most homeowners spend somewhere between $800 and $2,000 a season. Every house is priced on its own, and a 50% deposit holds your install date once you approve the quote.
Who stores the Christmas lights after the season?
We do. We supply the lights, come back if something fails during the season, take everything down after January 1st and keep it in storage until next year.
