Where the land splits two watersheds
Ravenna sits at 1,112 feet near the drainage divide, where water north of town heads to the Cuyahoga and Lake Erie while water to the south feeds the West Branch of the Portage and the Ohio River. That height-of-land position means yards rarely sit dead flat. On the older streets around the Portage County courthouse, lots were laid out on the Western Reserve grid, so a front walk often steps down from the sidewalk to the door across a short, uneven grade.
Fixture spacing follows those grade breaks rather than a fixed interval. Mature maples and oaks that grew up with the 19th-century town throw heavy summer canopy, so uplight aimed into a full crown reads as glow instead of shape. We set path fixtures low and shield the source to keep light on the tread and off the neighbor's window.
Move a few miles out into Ravenna Township and Rootstown and the parcels open up. Setbacks get deep, driveways run long, and the house sits well back from the road behind lawn and field edge. On those runs the problem is reach without hot spots, so we step the transformer taps and hub the wire to hold even output down a hundred-foot approach.
Closer in, the grid streets near downtown put homes shoulder to shoulder, where the constraint is spill and not raw output. Shielded housings and a lower lumen package do more for a close-set block than anything bright.
