Christmas Lighting in Columbiana
A town with its own light festival sets the bar
More about lighting in Columbiana, OH
Columbiana's festival calendar includes the Joy of Christmas Holiday Light Festival.
The city's annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Friday, November 22 in 2024, with the tree lit at Town Square.
Columbiana also sits high. The city is at roughly 1,125 feet, higher than Canfield and well above the valley floor at Youngstown.
Elevation is the quiet variable in a Mahoning Valley December, because the boundary between rain and wet snow in a passing system can fall within a few hundred feet. Higher ground gets the frozen version of the same storm more often.
Joshua Dixon settled the site in 1802, and in 1805 he and William Heald laid out the town. By 1831 Columbiana had a railroad and three stores, and it became a village in 1837 and a city in 2000.
The city takes its name from Columbiana County, which honors Christopher Columbus. It covers 6.14 square miles, most of it in Fairfield Township, with a northern district across the line in Beaver Township in Mahoning County and a small eastern part in Unity Township.
The Jones-Bowman House at 540 Pittsburgh Street was built in 1842 by J. Jones, the son of an abolitionist, and tradition holds that it served the Underground Railroad. It is a two-story L-shaped home whose spiral staircase and four wood-burning fireplaces have not been altered since it went up. E. Bowman bought it in 1885, and the National Register listed it in December 1976.
Harvey S. Firestone, who founded the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, was born and raised in Columbiana, and the city's history page credits him with a method for mass-producing tires. In 1933 he and his wife Idabelle gave land for Firestone Park, which opened in 1935 and covers 68 acres today. The Firestone family memorial stands in the nearby Columbiana Cemetery, and the Firestone Farms development carries his name, with a 1930s theme across its shopping and business park, housing and golf course.
State Routes 14 and 46 cross the north side of the city, State Routes 164 and 344 meet downtown, and State Route 7 passes the west side. The Norfolk Southern Fort Wayne Line and the Youngstown and Southeastern Railroad run through it.

Frequently asked questions
Earlier is better, and Columbiana homeowners should aim to be on the list before the first freeze, which averages October 14 in the Youngstown records. Once you approve the quote and the 50% deposit is paid, the spot is yours. You then get a text with the installation date, plus an alert on the day we are on the way.
We provide them. You pick from our custom commercial-grade lights and decorations, and every Columbiana house gets a design drawn for it. The price includes design, installation, maintenance, removal and storage, and your set waits with us until next season.
Call us and we come back out. Columbiana is part of the Youngstown-Warren area, where winter brings rain, sleet and snow with occasional icing. Maintenance is part of the job under Complete Care, along with installation, removal and storage.
Removal starts after January 1st and runs into February, weather depending. Youngstown, the nearest long term record, averages 26.8 degrees in January, and Columbiana sits several hundred feet higher, so the weather picks the day. After takedown we keep the lights and decor in storage until the next season.
Columbiana straddles two counties, and no flat price applies on either side of the line, so each house is priced on its own. Digital mockups and terms and conditions arrive with the quote, and approving it with a 50% deposit holds your place.
Most homeowners spend roughly $800 to $2,000 with us for a season, depending on the size of the house and how much of it you want lit. Call (234) 759-3333 or request a free consultation.
